Position Overview


VST is looking for an experienced engineer with strong Civil 3D skills and a background in rail, track, transportation, roadway, or highway design. The ideal candidate is technically strong, detail-oriented, and comfortable collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in a hybrid or remote environment.

Responsibilities
Prepare engineering design plans, profiles, and construction documents using
Autodesk Civil 3D
Support rail and track alignment design projects
Assist with transportation, roadway, and civil infrastructure design efforts
Coordinate with project managers, clients, and multidisciplinary engineering teams
Review drawings, specifications, and technical documents for quality and accuracy
Support project delivery from conceptual design through final design and

Qualifications
Required

EIT Certified

Interface Lead

Job Description

Position Overview

VST is seeking an Interface Lead to support a major infrastructure project. This role will report to the Engineering Manager and work closely with the CP2 Engineering Manager. The Interface Lead will be responsible for reviewing, updating, and continuously refining defined interfaces between various project elements throughout the design, construction, testing, and commissioning phases.


Key Details

  • Base Salary: Up to $190,000


Responsibilities

  • Schedule and lead regular interface meetings with the project team, including GEC, CMS, and CP contractors

  • Establish, implement, and report on structured processes to monitor project progress

  • Facilitate the resolution of interface challenges across teams

  • Maintain and update a comprehensive database of inter-contract and intra-contract design and construction interfaces

  • Ensure proper documentation of interfaces in accordance with approved procedures

  • Track implementation of interfaces and record any changes

  • Proactively collaborate with project controls and contracts teams to manage changes to established interfaces


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field

  • 8+ years of experience on large-scale infrastructure or transportation projects

  • Proven experience coordinating interfaces across multiple disciplines, teams, and/or contracts on complex projects

  • Strong understanding of project lifecycle phases, including design, construction, testing, and commissioning

  • Experience developing and maintaining interface tracking tools (e.g., interface registers or databases)

  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate coordination and resolve issues across cross-functional teams

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage detailed documentation and track changes

  • Experience collaborating with project controls and/or contracts teams on scope and change management

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills


Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or similar credential

  • Experience on rail, transit, or major underground/linear infrastructure projects (e.g., tunnels, stations, systems)

  • Prior involvement on large, multi-contract programs such as BART, Caltrain, or similar transit systems

  • Familiarity with interface management best practices, including Interface Control Documents (ICDs)

  • Experience working in design-build or large, multi-prime delivery environments

  • Knowledge of systems engineering or systems integration principles

  • Experience with document control and project management systems (e.g., Aconex, Unifier, SharePoint)

  • Prior experience in a lead or coordination role on complex infrastructure projects

  • Experience working with public sector clients or transit agencies

Bridge Engineer

Position Overview

VST is looking to hire a full-time Bridge Engineer to work hybrid/remotely from Los Angeles, Fresno or San Francisco, CA. The successful candidate will be required to assist senior engineers in performing analysis, developing designs, contract drawings, and specifications for various infrastructure and transportation related projects.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work will be primarily around the Los Angeles area may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. This description is not a comprehensive list of activities, duties or responsibilities that may be required of the employee. Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may be assigned or may be changed at any time with or without notice.

Project Manager

Position Overview

VST is looking for a Project Manager (PM) in the San Francisco Bay Area. This full-time role and based in our headquarters in Oakland, CA.


The PM will support VST’s BART Project Delivery Team and be responsible for projects/programs categorized into four (4) portfolios: Track/Structures; Train Control & Communications and Systems; Traction Power, Electrical, and Mechanical; or Yards, Shops, Facilities & Stations. The PM will be assigned multiple capital projects under one or more of these portfolios.

Responsibilities

  • The PM is responsible and accountable for the day-to-day management of the assigned projects and oversees the entire project lifecycle (from inception to closeout).

  • Management of project teams in the development and implementation of goals and objectives for the assigned projects.

  • Preparing specifications, drawings, procurement, stakeholder management and coordination, testing, Start-Up and Commissioning for system turnover to BART Maintenance & Operations.

  • The PM will also be the point of contact for all project reporting to internal BART departments, BART executives, and external stakeholders.

  • The PM is a Maintenance and construction friendly hands-on project leader who prioritizes quality and safety and is willing to go into the field at night or on weekends if needed.

  •  Coordination with other BART divisions, inter-departments, and external agencies.

  • Providing highly responsive support for BART PMCM, Engineering, Maintenance teams and management, or other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Experience in managing multiple capital projects.

  • Scope/Schedule/Budget/Quality/Environmental compliance, and Safety experience.

  • Experience with Federal Transit Administration (FTA) compliance or similar agency requirements.

Traction Power Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Assist senior engineers in the design and analysis of traction power distribution systems, including substations, overhead catenary systems (OCS), and third rail systems.

  • Support the development of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment layouts using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation).


Qualifications

  • BA/BS + 4 years relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Understanding of electrical power systems and circuit analysis and electrical theory

  • Familiarity with AC and DC power concepts

  • Strong interest in railway or transit systems

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications

  • Knowledge of power system analysis software (e.g., ETAP, SKM Power Tools)
