Project Manager

Job Description

VST Engineering is looking for a Project Manager in the San Francisco Bay area. Our Full time role and based in our headquarters in Oakland, California.


About the Role:


You will be supporting our BART, Project Delivery team and be responsible for projects/programs categorized into four (4) portfolios; Track/Structures, or Train Control & Comm. and Systems, or Traction Power, Electrical & Mechanical, or Yards, Shops, Facilities & Stations. The Project Manager (PM) will be assigned multiple capital projects under one or more of these portfolios.


Responsibilities:


  • The PM is responsible and accountable for the day-to-day management of the assigned projects and oversees the entire project lifecycle (from inception to closeout).

  • Management of project teams in the development and implementation of goals and objectives for the assigned projects.

  • Preparing specifications, drawings, procurement, stakeholder management and coordination, testing, Start-Up and Commissioning for system turnover to BART Maintenance & Operations.

  • The PM will also be point of contact for all project reporting to internal BART departments, BART executives, and external stakeholders.

  • The PM is a Maintenance and construction friendly hands-on project leader who prioritizes quality and safety and is willing to go into the field at night or on weekends if needed.

  • Coordination with other BART divisions, inter-departments, and external agencies.

  • Providing highly responsive support for BART PMCM, Engineering, Maintenance teams and management, or other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications:


  • Experience in managing multiple capital projects.

  • Scope/Schedule/Budget/Quality/Environmental compliance, and Safety experience.

  • Experience with Federal Transit Administration (FTA) compliance or similar agency requirements.

  • Construction Management certification preferred.

  • Professional Engineering certification preferred.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.


Required Skills:


  • Experience in managing multiple capital projects.

  • Scope/Schedule/Budget/Quality/Environmental compliance, and Safety experience.

  • Experience with Federal Transit Administration (FTA) compliance or similar agency requirements.


Preferred Skills:


  • Construction Management certification preferred.

  • Assist senior engineers in the design and analysis of traction power distribution systems, including substations, overhead catenary systems (OCS), and third rail systems.

  • ·Support the development of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment layouts using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation).

  • BA/BS + 4 years relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Understanding of electrical power systems and circuit analysis and electrical theory

  • Familiarity with AC and DC power concepts

  • Strong interest in railway or transit systems

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications

  • Knowledge of power system analysis software (e.g., ETAP, SKM Power Tools)

  • Knowledge of Traction Power Load Flow Simulation Software’s( e.g, Train, ETRAX, Openpowernet)

  • Valid US Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other VST offices.

  • 3 years work experience in performing Traction Power projects

  • Electrical Engineering Degree with a focus on Power Systems

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar drafting software is a plus

Structural Engineer

Job Description

VST Engineering is looking to hire a full time Structural Engineer to work remotely from Los Angeles, Fresno or San Francisco.


Minimum of 8 years of experience in design of new transportation structures such as highway, transit and rail bridges. Experience with inspection and rehabilitation of existing structures is a plus. The successful candidate will be required to assist senior engineers in performing analysis, developing designs, contract drawings, and specifications for various infrastructure and transportation related projects. Possible locations in California include Fresno, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.


Your Key Responsibilities:


  • Uses knowledge of relevant structural engineering of transportation structures.

  • Preparing design calculations, drawings, and details for various transportation projects.

  • Design of new structures and rehabilitation of existing structures.

  • Review of shop drawings produced by fabricators and detailers, calculations performed by other engineers, coordinate with design team, site visits to address site issues and verify existing conditions, respond to request for information, oversee testing and monitoring programs.

  • Assist with client coordination including coordinating deliveries, submittals, meeting, review comments etc. Clients include public agencies and private clients.

  • Working with other structural staff and departments to complete projects.


Your Capabilities and Credentials:


  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of California.

  • Proficient in steel, masonry, timber and concrete (incl. precast and prestressed) design.

  • Proficiency in Structural Analysis with SAP 2000, CsiBridge, Midas or similar software.

  • Strong background preparing bridge design calculations and plans per Caltrans Standards.

  • Previous experience on California High Speed Rail Projects is a plus.

  • You place a high emphasis on attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of your work. In addition, your strong leadership and team building skills are essential to meet the expectations of this challenging position.


Education and Experience:


  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree highly desired.

  • 8 years’ experience in the structural design for bridges and infrastructure with CalTrans experience.

  • High speed rail experience preferred.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Structural Inspector

Job Description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Structural Inspector located in the United States. The Structural Inspector will be responsible for performing inspections, assessments, and quality control of structural components and materials. They will ensure compliance with regulatory standards, perform detailed reports, and collaborate with engineering teams to maintain structural integrity in construction projects.


In LA and the Bay area, we need someone with experience with structural inspections, database management, and certifications for fairly massive structures that support critical rail infrastructure. 


You must have experience maintaining and inspecting these semi-massive structures and experience with pour reinforced concrete plinth inspections plus.


Qualifications:


  • Experience in structural inspections and assessments

  • Knowledge of regulatory standards and building codes

  • Quality control and reporting skills

  • Ability to collaborate with engineering teams

  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus
