Job Description
VST Engineering in Palo Alto/Menlo Park is seeking a Hybrid full-time Cost Estimator, with a preference for 2 days per week, negotiable. Familiarity with the bay area market is a requirement.
Job Responsibilities:
Assist project management teams in preparing construction cost estimates.
Generate budgetary estimates based on conceptual designs and specifications.
Review and reconcile cost estimates from third-party firms for quality assurance.
Conduct cost reasonableness reviews and facilitate estimate adjudication.
Evaluate design drawings, specifications, and quantity takeoffs.
Coordinate estimate documentation, updates, and closure.
Maintain estimate metadata in the estimating database.
Manage standard cost estimating tools, templates, and software.
Perform life-cycle cost analyses to identify cost-effective options.
Specialize in project cost estimating for various project types.
Proficiency in unit cost estimating standards like RS Means.
Interpret design drawings and collaborate with designers, engineers, and contractors.
Utilize cost estimating computing software and MS Office tools effectively.
Familiarity with DOE G 413.3 Cost Estimating Guide is advantageous.
Industry certifications in cost estimating are preferred but not mandatory.
Universities or DOE work is a plus!

Construction Manager

Job Description
re you an experienced Construction Manager looking for a new challenge? Our Construction Management team is actively seeking a dedicated professional to oversee infrastructure project construction activities and manage construction subcontracts.
Key Responsibilities:
Demonstrate expertise in construction contracting, RFI and submittal review, pay application review (SOV), technical direction, and safety management.
Collaborate with architects, engineers, and specialists to ensure seamless scheduling coordination.
Conduct thorough field inspections, including mechanical, electrical, code compliance, and special inspections, to ensure technical compliance and construction quality assurance for infrastructure projects. Liaise with the Building Inspection Office.
Visit project sites regularly to strategize, supervise, and address construction activities from bid walks to project closeout. Attend status and coordination meetings.
Additional Duties:
Provide daily onsite coverage and support, ensuring immediate action and safety measures are in place when subcontractors are onsite.
Support internal and external review meetings as the construction subject matter expert.
Follow Construction Management procedures and guidelines for minor infrastructure projects (under $30M) and major projects (over $30M) as per DOE O 413.3B.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Civil/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or related field with at least ten years of experience in construction superintendence or management.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project Schedule, Outlook, and SharePoint.
Possession of a valid California non-commercial Class driver's license.
CMAA certified construction manager preferred, or the ability to obtain certification within 1 year.

Structural Inspector

Job Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a Structural Inspector located in the United States. The Structural Inspector will be responsible for performing inspections, assessments, and quality control of structural components and materials. They will ensure compliance with regulatory standards, perform detailed reports, and collaborate with engineering teams to maintain structural integrity in construction projects.
In LA and the Bay area, we need someone with experience with structural inspections, database management, and certifications for fairly massive structures that support critical rail infrastructure.
You must have experience maintaining and inspecting these semi-massive structures and experience with pour reinforced concrete plinth inspections plus.
Qualifications:
Experience in structural inspections and assessments
Knowledge of regulatory standards and building codes
Quality control and reporting skills
Ability to collaborate with engineering teams
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus
